Zero Harm Awards Distribution and Celebration

SCHA will be hosting the 2nd annual Better State of Health meeting on December 10-11 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, SC. This year we are excited to recognize Zero Harm award winners in-person again at SCHA’s BetterState24 meeting on December 11. All 2024 award winners are invited to attend this meeting and the Zero Harm awards presentation on December 11.  Registration is required to attend. This year’s Zero Harm awards portal will open on Monday, August 14 at 10am and close on Friday, September 13 at 5pm. Reminder emails will be sent via the Zero Harm network leading up the application portal opening and an application link will be provided and posted on the Zero Harm website.

Zero Harm Webinar: Drive to Zero Suicide

In partnership with SCDMH, this presentation will include an overview of the requirements for the 2024 Zero Harm Drive to Zero Suicide and highlight available suicide prevention trainings. Jessica Barnes, SCDMH Program Manager Office of Suicide Prevention, and Jennifer Butler, SCDMH Program Manager, Office of Emergency Services will provide an overview of each metric, ways to show improvement on the metrics, examples of best practices and training, share SC-specific resources to enhance metrics, and will address any questions about applying for the award.

Workplace Violence in Healthcare Webinar: Warning Signs and Practical Solutions

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) considers workplace violence a widespread problem across all industries, but the agency says workers in healthcare face unique safety risks and that an OSHA standard focusing on violence in healthcare facilities is in the works.

In this Feb. 29 fireside chat, Hector Alvarez, MSPSY, CTM, president of Alvarez Associates, will discuss the issues that healthcare facilities must address to keep patients and staff safe from violence. HQIC Webinar: Promoting Zero Harm Through Tiered Briefs

Continued health care staffing and supply shortages are leading to burnout, frustration, decreased morale and ultimately, increased patient and staff harm. This presentation will highlight one hospital’s journey to "zero harm." The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) used the Team Strategies and Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS) concept of Tiered Briefs as a foundational tool to promote timely bi-directional communication from the frontline to executive leaders and empower everyone to solve problems quickly. Diabetes Free SC: A New Focus of Women's Health

Diabetes Free SC has supported multidisciplinary care for pregnant women with pre-gestational or gestational diabetes. This presentation will outline plans to build on that work by improving pre-pregnancy counseling, post-partum care, and the long-term prevention of diabetes and its complications in young women, their children, and their extended families.

The 2021 Tri-County Health Symposium will be held on November 4, 2021 from 9am – 12pm virtually. This symposium is Healthy Tri-County’s largest convening event and provides an in-depth look at the health needs and trends in our region. Further, the symposium will feature plenary presentations from local, state and national health experts, interactive workshops on a range of health issues designed to foster dialogue and exchange between public health, medical professionals and practitioners working in these respective fields.
