Learning Session #2: Data Collection, Stratification, & Use

On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, the DEI Learning Collaborative held its second Learning Session via Zoom. Participants heard from Dr. Leon Caldwell from the AHA Institute for Diversity & Health Equity about how collecting valid stratified data is not only a performance tool, but should be used for the betterment of treatment outcomes, the retention of workforce, and organizational cost savings. Dr. Caldwell also provided the group with an in-depth explanation of the new AHA resource, the AHA Health Equity Roadmap. This new and improved tool was created by the Institute for Diversity & Equity as a framework for hospitals and healthcare systems to use while developing actionable paths toward transformation.

Participants also learned about the real life application of stratified data within a healthcare system from Suzanne Wilson and Juana Slade from AnMed Health. They shared their journey to develop and improve their internal data dashboard to inform their strategic DEI efforts with their community. Their slides and practical examples were a great example for the Learning Collaborative.
