Learning Session #4: Community Partnerships
On Wednesday, June 22, 2022, the DEI Learning Collaborative held its fourth and final Learning Session via Zoom. Participants were lead through a participatory meeting process with the guest facilitator, Kabrina Bass, CEO of the Midlands Mediation Center. Ms. Bass asked probing questions about the definition of community, community outreach, and participation in community events followed. She explained the duality of partnerships and the importance of intentionality when listening and sharing within the communities we serve.
In the second half of the meeting, Learning Collaborative members heard from Amanda Cohen & Connie Kasprowicz about their work with LiveWell Georgetown; a community coalition supported by Tidelands Health and the Healthy People Healthy Carolinas project. The coalition utilizes the Effective Impact and Results Based Accountability models to achieve common health goals by starting with the end in mind. Following the pandemic, they are currently reframing their initiatives and placing more emphasis on DEI to honor community voices, build partnerships, and foster sustainability for future Live Well Georgetown programs.
Throughout the meeting, were organized into groups from different hospitals to discuss:
What community or groups of people in your area were most impacted by COVID-19? What health disparities did you see exacerbated in your marginalized or more vulnerable communities?
What outreach or relationship building have you been able to do since 2020? Were your efforts successful or challenging or both?
What challenges have you experienced developing relationships with your community?
What can you use to improve, foster, or maintain relationships with your patient populations that have been impacted by COVID 19?
